Low RBC Count continues after transfusion?

My husband has severe decubitis ulcers (stages 3 & 4) due to his quadreplegia. He uses a Klinitron type bed, but they persist. Lately, his blood count has dropped to 7, despite two units of blood. I am giving him supplemental iron, vitamins and a diet as rich as he can tolerate. His appetitie is poor, and the very act of eating fatigues him. Any ideas on what I might try? Your help is greatly appreciated.
