Do I want to be a nurse?

I really want to have a meaningful career, something that will challenge me, so I was considering becoming a nurse. But when I herd a girl the other day say that it is really hard to evoke an emotional response from her cause she is so deadened by the horrible things she has seen as a nurse, I thought maybe its not the job for me. It isn't that I cant handle seeing sad, or gruesome stuff, I just don't want to become an emotional cripple because of it! Will this happen if I become a nurse?
